maybe it’s valentine’s time…

February 7, 2011 by becca

But whatever the reason, I’m getting all poetic lately. I can’t stop writing these swell little ditties. Sometimes they rhyme. (Don’t be frightened.) Sometimes they’re formal, like a haiku or a sonnet. Sometimes one shows up in my WIP, and I have to just leave it there, because it’s not time to edit yet. You can bet, though, when it is time to edit, those poem-thingies will find themselves highlighted and deleted.

But hey, when you’re on a roll, even if it’s terribly weird, maybe you (you= me) should just go with it. So, in honor of Going With It, here is a small sampling of the haiku that I can write in 5 minutes while sitting right here in this un-comfy chair.

Appliance Love

I have 4 children.
So glad to have a dryer
In the winter time.

About the Green Smoothies

A liquid diet –
Veggies and fruit all blended…
Where’s the fun in that?

Table Envy

Piney dining set,
You were our first furniture,
But I want you gone.

But wait: There’s more.

Music to My Ears?

Playing or list’ning,
Practicing the violin
Brings joy and headache.

Dilema

If I buy red shoes,
Will Spring show up around here?
Or will I shelve them?

Stay tuned. I think there will be more fabulous poetry on the way.

(I know. We’re all holding our breath.)

I think haikus are so cool! And I have been contemplating green smoothies. Really. I am horrible at eating veggies.

That one about the dryer is SHEER poetry. Seriously. I think I want to hang that one IN my laundry room. =]

I’ve never been good at haikus but perhaps I should try them?

The one titled “Dilemma” speaks to me.

This made me giggle in a lot of ways.

I just got a new dryer. (Well, a new used dryer.) Because yes, four kids, wintertime, and no dryer is not a good combination.

The violin one? Priceless. I should hang it in my studio. Seriously, there are days when I think if I here one more violin piece my brain is going to melt out through my ears. And this is what I chose for a career?

And can I just tell you how much I love that your last three or so posts have been tagged “Spring is Coming?” Sing it.

Table envy. Awesome. And I wore red heels to the grocery store this week. Love you.

I absolutely adore your haiku’s. It almost makes me want to attempt writing one, even though I haven’t since 8th grade.

After our first date, Kenny wrote me about ten haikus on the subject. It was a lovely email to open. I love him.
