Okay, kids. I think we’re making progress here. I actually feel like I am starting to know what I’m doing. (*sigh of relief*)
And here’s some fun: I’m going to play at The Purple Cow Bookstore in Tooele (that’s Too-ill-uh, for the non-initiate) UT on Saturday afternoon. They’re doing a great event, Kids Love Authors. I’ve visited the store’s blog, and I am nearly wetting myself with excitement about this visit. I’ll be joined by a handful of other authors, and I will come armed with a giveaway copy of MRRO* (and possibly bottles of blue nail polish, I’m just saying…). There will be reading and hanging out and a little bit of fun. Not too much, you understand. Just a little.
And can I tell you the thrill of an exceptional Indie bookstore? It makes my heart glad to be inside one. Really. I was in Maine with Husband a year and a half ago (he was at a conference, and I was at the ice cream stand every day for lunch) and there were bookstores that doubled as bakeries. Pastry and books, all in the same place. It was like Heaven. Really.
So if you find yourself on the map anywhere near Tooele, UT on Saturday between 2:00 and 4:00, come hang out with me. (I don’t actually know what else is on the map anywhere near Tooele, UT. Let’s check it out together, and maybe we’ll be surprised.)
*Publisher tells me that the book will be in stores EVERYWHERE by March 3rd. All my pleas of “Look what a great Valentine’s Day gift this would make” were met with cautious silence and surreptitious glances toward the exit. Not really. It was an email conversation. But if you’re interested, here’s why the book isn’t on shelves yet (other than mine, and my parents’). Shadow Mountain is owned by Deseret Book, who have their own stores. If we (and by we, I mean Publisher and me) want B&N and Borders and such to pick up this book, we have to be respectful of their, um, privilege** to sell without being preempted by DB stores. Which makes a little bit of sense in north central Utah, and very little sense anywhere else in the Entire World. But when you think about it, there are a few things that make some sense in north central Utah that make very little sense anywhere else in the world.
**I totally spelled that correctly. First try. Let’s go have a piece of pie.

I wanted to make it to the Purple Cow a thousand times when I lived in Tooele and never did. Now I’m making a special trip out there with my boys to experience the fun. And just maybe we’ll stop and see Grandma, since we’ll be ALL the way out there anyway.
