Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen many, many teachery-post commentary that says “Normalize saying “I love you” to your students — you may be the only person who says that to them today.”
This equally jazzes and horrifies me. Really? I may be the only one?
Then I remembered that one of my kids told me that she wished we had told her we were proud of her sometimes. (!!) I swear, I say it every five minutes. But she never really heard me say it. So. Not the same thing, saying and communicating.
So I’ll make it more of a habit to say the words. To my people, to my friends, to my students. It’s a good place to start.
