In my English classes today, my Sophomores responded to the journal prompt “What does 2020 hold for you?” and it’s fascinating to read their replies.
Full disclosure: I teach Honors sophomores, which is an inherently different population than a standard group of sophomores. They’re more likely to live in safe, secure environments. They’re more likely to have involved parents. They’re more likely to do careful, thoughtful, on-time work. They’re more likely to look ahead (in general, and for assignments such as this) beyond right this minute. That does not in any way mean that these kids are all safe or that they have it all easy. Nor does it mean that in my standard groups there is no security or parental involvement or–you know–goodness. It’s a generalization.
But they’re sure cute with their high hopes and their dreams of drivers licenses and increasing freedoms. It’s such a great joy to see a slice of the world through their eyes.
