Last night one of my sophomores was struck in a head-on collision and killed.
I thought I’d have words to say, but it turns out that I’m just about able to breathe in and out.
Maybe I can tell you that Vic was one of the most charming young men I’ve known. His smile was big and sincere. He loved driving[1] and soccer (school, not so much). He laughed readily and was invariably polite.
I told him I missed seeing his smile when he chose not to come to school. I can only imagine how I’ll miss seeing his smile now.

[1] When Victor had to give a speech in class last fall, he filmed Christopher teaching him to drive a stick and presented a “what not to do” lesson on clutch work and shifting. He had the whole class laughing.
