It’s Gratitude Month

November 1, 2011 by becca

I hope (really, really hope) that this doesn’t come off cheesy or lame, but I need this right now. Every day I’m going to tell you something I’m grateful for. And you can tell me back, if you want to. Or not, if you don’t. But I need it. I already said that, didn’t I? Well, it’s true. I also plan to write one Thank-You note every day. Like, on paper. In an envelope. And I’ll be amazed if these notes get delivered. But I will write them.

So. Today, I’m grateful that Halloween is over, and that my town is still acting like it’s fall, at least in the afternoons. The gold light that shines in the kitchen window about 4:00 makes me happy to be alive.

I’m grateful that my oldest brother’s family is going to be at my parent’s farm for Thanksgiving while we will be there. He and I are doing the dinner this year, therefore there will be no turkey, only Smithfield Ham. Can’t wait to cook as I’ve never made Thanksgiving dinner before. It’s going to rock.

I did this two years ago, just weeks after my dad died. I was doing NaNo, had emergency gall bladder surgery, and traveled to Utah from Vegas for a week — all during those few 30 days. But it was so good for me. I called it “DeNae’s Month o’ Gratitude,” or DMoG for short, and it really changed my outlook. So. Today I’m grateful for cold weather. I know this isn’t one a lot of you Utahns may value, but after 4 years in the tropics and 10 years in Las Vegas, I love, love, love seeing my breath in the morning.

I am grateful for my new job and the opportunity that it gives me to serve the people in my community. I wasn’t really confident that it would be a good fit, but it’s going to be good!

I like the idea of writing one thank you note a day. Very cool. I may steal that one. And thank you for being my friend!

Today I’m glad that it SNOWED!, because this afternoon we made a fire and me and the kiddos sat around and enjoyed being cozy 🙂
