Seventeen Years Ago

June 4, 2011 by becca

I said Yes.

Yes to you, and your very important question.
Yes to a life together, built on huge dreams and heady hopes and used furniture.

Yes to the laughs and the kisses and the hand-holding,
And the game playing, and the movies.
Yes to the budgets and the bills and the wishing.

Yes to the Kids. All of them.
To the hilarious, the witty, the talented, the dramatic, the adorable, the brilliant, the kind, the surprising, the adored and adoring Kids.

Yes to the schooling and the jobs and the moves.
Yes to the trying and the succeeding and the sometimes-not-so-much.

I said Yes to honing the kitchen skills, to the making and the stretching and the inventing.
And you said Yes, it’s good.
Every time (except those two times, of which we shall never speak again).

Yes to the adventures.
Yes to the boring parts…
(And the boring parts are my favorite parts.)

I said Yes to the funny parts and the sad parts and the undeniably ridiculous parts.
And Yes to the hard parts, and the tragic parts and the I’d-really-rather-not parts.

I said Yes because you took a chance.
I said Yes because you believed. And still believe. In all the things that matter.
I said Yes because you have the most beautiful eyes, and I wanted those eyes to look at me Just Like That, forever.
I said Yes because I knew, beyond every other thing, that you would be kind to me. (I was right again.)
I said Yes because I really, really wanted to say Yes.

Thank you for asking.

Yes. Yes. Forever. Happy Anniversary, Love.

Happy belated Anniversary. The line that killed me? The one where he looks at you Just Like That. There’s really no words for it, is there?

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Wow, Becca that was truly amazing and I hope he thought so too. You could hire yourself out to help people give words to their life for those they love!

I hope you had a wonderful anniversary! I love this post. 🙂 I’ve been meaning to write and tell you, I found my journal from a very long time ago. I could barely read it because of how embarrassing it was. Then I found one entry where I talked about you and your super awesome husband. And I said that I wanted to marry someone like him. Which made me kind of want to die a litle bit because I was such a cheesy teenager, but I remember always admiring your relationship. Thanks to both of you for being such great examples!

There is no greater longing than that your family happiness — and that of the other 9 kids — grow through time and eternity. Share the 4-generation tradition with your kids; one may choose to make it 5.
